1870(19 years old)March: The northwestern branch of the WFMS-MEC is formed (Jennie Willing as correspondence).
  June: Brother Moncena marries Leni Sage, the daughter of a builder.
  September: Dora begins working as a public school teacher (annual salary of $340) in Morris (Grundy County).
1871(20 years old)September: Dora begins assisting Principal H.H.C. Miller as a second-year teacher (annual salary of $375).
1872(21 years old)Dora continues to assist the principal in September.
1873(22 years old)(In February, the ban on Christianity in Japan is lifted)
  July: An appeal for the necessity of missionary work in Japan appears in HWF.
  August: The mission to Japan by the Methodist Episcopal Church (MEC) begins.
  Dora begins her third year assisting the principal in September. She teaches German on the side (annual salary of $500).
  Autumn? : Dora submits her application to WFMS-MEC to become a missionary. She begins studying music and starts working at Jennie Willing’s office.
